KARACHI: Pakistan Red Crescent has established four heatstroke treatment centres in the city and provided awareness to more than 1,000 people from different occupations during a campaign launched on heatwave in the metropolis. In a statement issued by PRC-Sindh on Mondya, provincial secretary Kanwar Waseem said, “Red Crescent has launched a campaign to create awareness to people on heatstroke and also established heatstroke treatment centres in the city, with almost all of them operating inside Red Crescent existing medical units,” he said, adding these centres will provide free of charge quality treatment to those who are suffering from heatstroke.” “The heatstroke patients are getting treatment at Red Crescent Diagnostic Centre Clifton, Red Crescent Medical Centre Guru Mandir, Red Crescent Medical Centre Orangi and Red Crescent Medical Unit New Karachi. The Red Crescent own doctors are looking after the patients and in case a person needs further care, the Red Crescent ambulances took the patient to the nearest hospital as well,” he added. Red Crescent Provincial Health Programme Manager Dr Ali Warsi said that the Red Crescent has printed thousands of brochures and banners on heatstroke to create awareness about symptoms and prevention of heatstroke. “Our volunteers are distributing the brochures at different public places, hospitals, traffic signals and Red Crescent medical centres,” said Dr Ali Warsi. “More than hundred banners on heatwave information have been displayed in different hospitals and areas of the city.” Dr Ali also appealed to the citizens to avoid going out during the heatwave and take all precautionary measures in this regard. Meanwhile, PRC-Sindh medical officer Dr Muzzamil Pervez conducted awareness sessions on heatstroke for Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), city wardens, schoolteachers, students, boys Scouts, girls guide, junior brigade, Traffic police, Ambulance Service of KKF, Al-Khidmat and foreman of construction companies. In conducted trainings sessions, prevention from heat illness, treatment of heatstroke and heat exhaustion was explained to participants.
