KARACHI: At least four persons were killed in different incidents of violence in the city on Monday. According to police, two men were killed in two separate incidents of firing in Orangi Town. The firing incidents occurred in Sector 11 and its surroundings in which 25-year-old Shahid and Sarwar Abbas were killed. Abbas was resident of Orangi Block L, Hussaini Chowk, and an employee of a private company, the police added. Meanwhile, two bullet-riddled, tortured dead bodies of unidentified men were found from a river near Raxer Bridge.
Court hands death sentences to 3 murderers: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi handed death sentences to three murderers on Monday. According to charges, the men kidnapped a local trader in 2010 and sought Rs 10 million ransom from his family which managed to pay just Rs 1.9 million ransom, at which the culprits killed the trader. The trader was murdered despite his family paying Rs10 million in ransom. The kidnappers reportedly killed the hostage in fear of getting caught. All the charges against them were proved in the court today. Businessmen in the city are often targeted by extortionists while police response to such incidents is not very satisfactory.
85 profiteers challaned: Karachi divisional and district administration have challaned 85 shopkeeper and charged Rs 94,500 fine from them for selling eatables above government rates. This was informed by Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui in a report issued on Monday pertaining to latest actions taken against profiteers in various parts of Karachi. He said that actions against profiteers were taken in North Nazimabad, Bin Qasim, Airport area, Korangi, Garden and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Such actions would be continued against retailers until they sell their goods at government rates, commissioner Karachi said.
