KARACHI: Jamaat e Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem Rehman has strictly condemned the extrajudicial killings on the pretext of ‘encounters’ with suspects and said that questions are being raised on the role of the police and its credibility. He expressed serious reservations on the role of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in the city, a statement read on Friday. The JI is concerned over rising street crimes and the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. LEAs claim to have killed several terrorists after each and every incident of terrorism and the continuation of this has raised doubts on the role of police. There is no respite in the crimes in the city and traders are facing acute hardships due to the situation but the police seem helpless in this regard. He criticized the government over its superficial measures; undertaken instead of showing some resolve against terrorists. After every incident of terrorism, the government imposes Section-144 and law enforcers start interrupting commuters – the situation only affects peaceful citizens, whereas the terrorists roam free.
