KARACHI: The Sindh High Court directed the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) to stop parking of vehicles at a playground in the city’s Punjab Colony and develop it for sports and recreational activities. A two-judge bench passed this direction while hearing the petition filed by the residents of the locality seeking directives for the CBC to restore the facility to its original condition. It further directed the CBC to remove heavy machinery parked on the ground within three days. Muhammad Aqeel Asim, Muhammad Anwar Khan and Asif and sportsmen submitted that Punjab Colony Sports Ground was the only playground providing facilities of sports to the residents of Punjab Colony, Chandio village, Gabool Colony, Delhi colony and other adjoining areas but it was in shambles due to negligence of the relevant authorities. They had been playing on this playground since they were children, the petitioners said adding but now the administration had ruined it by allowing commercial activities on it. Earlier the authorities wanted to construct a marriage hall and shops but presently they had allowed parking of heavy machinery on the ground. Instead of facilitating the sports activities, the CBC had abandoned the only playground of the area, depriving the youth of the locality of sports and recreational activities, they lamented.
