KARACHI: Not mentioning about any remote district of Sindh but even in the provincial capital city, Karachi, most of the college teachers prefer to work in the center of the city and are not willing to go for teaching in suburban areas like Orangi Town ect, Daily Times has learnt. According to the official data acquired by Daily Times Gulshan-e-Iqbal is the most favorable town for the college teachers as it’s located in the middle of the city. The students of Gulshan are more well off and prefer taking coaching classes and tuition while in areas like Orangi Town and Korangi , Qaidabad ect which are away from the central city and most of the students belong to poor families which cannot afford tuition and private coaching educational institution fees. Ironically, the College Education Department (CED), Sindh has neglected students of the Orangi Town because the department has failed to deploy faculty members in its collages. Out of the 7 existing public colleges in the town, degree classes are not being held at any of them because of the acute shortage of teachers in those colleges. The CED has however not interested in transferring faculty members from other colleges, despite peace has reinstate in Orangi Town after the Rangers lead operation. The CED’s data reveals that around 750 students are enrolled in the Government Degree Boys College Orangi Town but for those students only 12 teachers available in the college. In this situation, faculties are hardly managing all classes for the students while the college has capacity of further conformity and enrollment. In the current academic year, around 800 students have been enrolled in the Government Girls Degree College, located in sector 15-C of Orangi but CED has posted only 9 teachers for those 800 students. The management of the college has stopped enrollment of new students due to lack of facilities and faculty members in the college. Shockingly, 50 students have been enrolled in Government Degree Girls College Orangi Town, Qasba Colony but there is no teacher available for those students despite that the Sindh government has spent more than Rs 200 million in the construction of the college’s building. Similarly, 700 students have been enrolled in Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhuto Government Boys College, Gushan Bihar Oragni but the department has posted 2 teachers in the college. The same case exists in Government Degree Girls College Sector 11-1/2 ,Orangi where 150 students have been enrolled and there are only 2 teachers posted by the College Education Department. Whereas, 680 students have got admission in the Government Girls Degree College, Sector 7-C Orangi Town while number of the faculty members are 10 and most of the teachers are male. Ironically, the management of the college has refused admissions in commerce faculty due to the non availability of the commerce teachers in the college. The CED’s data for the colleges of Orangi Town shows that 3490 students have got admission in the 7 government colleges while the department has appointed only 43 teachers including male and female where averagely 125 students have only 1 teacher. Amazingly, there is no teacher for English, Physics and Commerce in all government colleges of Orangi Town. Comparatively, Gulshan Town which is the central part of the city, have 5 state-run colleges where CED officials have deployed 271 in only 5 colleges. In those colleges enrollment ratio is low and not different than Orangi Town’s colleges but number of the teachers and facilities in Gulshan is much higher. The Government Boys and Girls Degree College, Block 7 Gulshan has 40 existing posts for teaching staff but there are 44 teachers have been posted by CED. Similarly, Government Girls Degree College Gulstan-e- Johar-1 has 70 posts for teaching faculties but 77 lecturers have been accommodated in the college. The same situation also existing in Government Girls Degree College Gulstan-e- Johar 2 because there are 70 posts for the faculty members but CED has posted 77 teachers. There are 35 teachers who are working against 30 existing posts for teaching staff in Government Boys Degree College Gulstan-e-Johar. The CED’s data further reveals that Government boys Degree College, Safora Goth have 35 posts for all faculties but 38 teachers have been posted in the college. The mentioned data shows that CED teachers are choosing his transfers and posted by their own way because colleges of Gulshan have been over staffed while Orangi Town which is the largest slum area of the country has been neglected by CED’s officials.
