KARACHI: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) on Sunday demolished a under construction building in Mehmoodabad area allegedly due to non-payment of bribe money and threatened to collapse the remaining part of structure if the demanding amount would not be paid before Eid, Daily Times has learnt. The owner of the building, Masood Ashraf, while talking to Daily Times said that he is the resident of plot no 860, Mehmoodabad no 2 and started the construction of building a couple of weeks ago. Masood Ashraf said, “Qurban Ali, inspector of SBCA visited the building and demanded Rs 2 million and when I approached to the Assistant Director Abdul Haleem Shaikh for complaint, the said AD advised him to pay Rs 1 million.” According to Masood, when he asked Sheikh to fulfill all the requirements as per procedure, the later shouted over him and said that no one was allowed to construct third floor at any cost. Masood Ashraf approached and contacted to the SBCA Director Jameel Memon and briefed him about all the facts and figures and the director assured him that no one can demolish his building and allowed to continue his construction work. Memon also directed Masood to regularise his construction but when the work was completed, a squad of SBCA headed by Abdul Haleem Sheikh reached and demolished the building forcibly without any notice. According to Masood, the squad threatened him that if the demanding money would not be paid, the remaining part of the structure would also be demolished. Following the demolishing of his building, Masood Ashraf has registered a complaint against the vicious act of SBCA officials. He demanded SBCA to investigate the matter thoroughly.
