KARACHI: A massive traffic jam was reported on Korangi road in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and its surrounding areas on Tuesday afternoon following the protest held by the family of a young suspect killed by police in an alleged encounter. Two suspects, namely Nadeem and Abdul Rasheed were arrested in injured condition, according to police, after an exchange of fire when the police intercepted them near Defence Morr late on Sunday night along with weapons. They were later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where one, namely Nadeem succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The family received his body from the hospital later and started a protest on Korangi Road along with this body. The family claimed that the police had killed their loved one in a fake encounter and the personnel responsible for the incident should be arrested and punished. Deceased suspect was a resident of Akhtar Colony and used to work at a shop in Phase II, Defence. The family claimed that Nadeem was returning home when the police killed him in a fake encounter. The protesters, however, ended their protest after the high police officials assured them of their full cooperation. SHO Khalid Abbasi said that Nadeem was busy in looting valuables from a citizen, namely Abdul Wasey when the police personnel on a routine patrol reached the site and attempted to arrest them but the culprits in an attempt to escape restored to indiscriminate firing. The police had no criminal record of the suspected robber killed in an alleged encounter with the police. Police high ups have ordered to initiate inquiry over the alleged encounter.
