LARKANA: As many as ten children were brought to the Paeds Medicine Department of Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) here on Thursday who ate mouldy ‘Palli’ (traditional food) and soon their condition deteriorated. Their parents saw their condition and brought them one by one to the hospital for treatment. On arrival, the stomachs of all the boys and girls were immediately washed by the duty doctors & paramedics, despite strike in the CMCH, which saved their precious lives. According to the details, these kids were brought by their parents to the CMCH Ward when they consumed musty ‘Palli’ and their condition became precarious after eating the stewed dish. The kids who were brought to the hospital include 5-year Batool, 5- year Yasin, 3-year Fatima, 12-year Anmol, 6-year Kainat, 10-year Mudasir, 8-year Shahanshah, 9-year Sahar, 4-year Shaista and 7-year Bakhtawar. All of them are Bhutto by caste and residents of village Gulab Bhutto, near Jelus Bazaar, Larkana. Out of these ten children, two were discharged by the doctors, claimed AMS Dr. Akhtar Dayo while talking to newsmen said others were still in the ward under treatment when this report was filed. Dr. Dayo further said that all the kids are out of danger & will soon be allowed to go back to their homes. It must be mentioned here that ‘Palli’ is very famous among the poor populace of Sindh and people use it during its harvesting season but so many poverty-stricken families also save it for future use and before doing so they pluck or purchase it fresh from the field or market and then dry under the open sky, which is then used when there is no other dish to cook.
