LARKANA: The paramedics strike continued on the second consecutive day in Chandka Medical College Hospital here on Wednesday during which all OPDs were locked by them and they also boycotted their duties. On hearing the news the Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr. Inayatullah Kandhro, reached at the spot along with his private armed guards, unlocked the doors and he asked the doctors to go inside the building & start performing their OPD duties but the patients had already left when they came to know of the strike. Only Emergency department was working where treatment was provided to the needy patients. Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Larkana Chapter also supported the demand of the paramedics, demanded removal of the junior MS and posting of an honest dedicated BPS-20 doctor to run the Hospital smoothly which will also end unrest among the protesting paramedics. In a press release, the PMA warned that if their just demand is not accepted immediately then their organisation will support paramedics on country-level. The Paramedics also held protest in the hospital and chanted slogans in favour of their demands. During their protest, the MS also reached there along with his private body guards and both sides came face to face but police prevented any untoward incident. Shahi Khan Jagirani, President, Paramedics Association, Zulfiqar Sahto, General Secretary and others while talking to Media said that MS got the OPD opened forcibly at gun point. They said that no operation has taken place on second day of their agitation neither any lab nor any radiological test has been carried out which shows the gravity of their protest & unrest among the protesting employees. They said that by posting BPS-19 junior doctor on political grounds, the Sindh Government has committed contempt of apex court orders which may be taken notice of. They said that they have started “remove MS campaign” which will continue till his transfer. They further claimed that bringing armed private guards show the “Gulu Butt” mentality which may have resulted in any mishap. They said Aijaz Chandio and their other colleagues have been arrested by police during protest and raids are being conducted over the homes of other office bearers which must be stopped. They demanded release of their fellow employees or else they will intensify their protest demos. MS Dr. Kandhro told Media persons that he has personal enmity that’s why security guards always remain with him. He alleged that the so called leaders of the paramedics are involved in corruption, irregularities and soon action will be taken against them by the government. He said transfer/postings of paramedics are made for improving services which cannot be termed personal vendetta. He said 2500 to 3000 poor people including men, women & children come to visit various OPDs of the Hospital and about 150 operations are made daily. He said paramedics are also protesting for saving their vested interests.
