KARACHI: Sindh National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday raided the Sindh Education Department and took away the records of more than 1,300 teachers appointed in return of heavy bribe during tenure of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) former senior minister Pir Mazharul Haq back in 2012, Daily Times has learnt. Sindh NAB Deputy Director Dr Zamir Abbasi while talking to Daily Times said that the original record has been seized by the investigation officer. However, earlier the education department had handed over the photocopies, which were not even being owned by them and the NAB investigators also recorded the statements of witness, he added. Sources said that in 2012, PPP-led Sindh government had announced to recruit more than 1300 SLTs in BPS-9, 14 and 15 with a condition that the candidate must have studied Sindhi as compulsory subject throughout his or her education from institutions of the metropolis. Sources said the written test for the candidates was held at Safia Khanum Memorial School near Gurumandir for females and males at Government Boys and Girls School Moosmiyat in March 2012 adding that the interviews were conducted in April 2012, however, the process was halted completely over the difference of appointment procedure between Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Education Minister Pir Mazhar. It is reveled that the matter got worsened after former MNA Faryal Talpur jumped into it and got appointed his brother-in-law Dr Faalullah Pechuho as education secretary who never accepted Pir Mazhar as his boss. With all this, the worst sufferers appointed on the vacant posts and were performing their duties with not a single penny paid since June 2012, sources added. Education Secretary Dr Fazaullah Pechuho had also forwarded a letter to the Sindh accountant general requesting them not to release salaries of the SLTs until the secretary’s office verifies the candidates.
