KARACHI: Karachi Union of Journalists-Dastoor celebrated the 70th Independence Day at Karachi Press Club last night. Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar, Sardar Rahim and Faqir Jadam Mangrio, Faisal Edhi, KUJ Dastoor President Afzal Mohsin, Vice President Kafeel Faizan, Secretary Hamid-u-Rehman and journalists attended the ceremony. A cake was cut by Mayor Karachi and PML-F Leader Faqeer Jadam Mangrio to mark the event with zeal and fervor. Speaking on the occasion, the Karachi Mayor said that it was very important day for Pakistani nation. “The Independence Day is the symbol of happiness as the nation is celebrating this day with zeal and fervor.” He said: “Karachi’s status is increasing in the world due to economic activities. We hope that Pakistani nation will always celebrate this day with national spirit.” The Mayor urged the nation to ensure peaceful atmosphere and work with unity. Saradr Rahim said that Pakistan was established after great scarifies. “Pakistan’s status in the world is very important due to its struggle against crimes and poverty.” Faqeer Jadam Mangrio said that ‘Hur Movement’ struggled for establishment of Pakistan and rendered great scarifies for Pakistan. “Our Hur Mujahideen were even burnt to death by British government. We are thankful to the KUJ leadership for arranging this cheerful event.” Children sang national anthem and songs to pay tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other leaders who played their due role for the establishment of Pakistan.
