SUKKUR: A rally was held on Tuesday by Fisher Folk Forum (PFF) to condemn intrusion of lakes, rivers and other freshwater ponds across Sindh. The rally started from the historical place Masoom Shah Minaro and culminated at Sukkur Press Club. Activists of growers, labour and civil society organisations also joined the rally against the grabbing of freshwater bodies by influential people. The participants raised slogans against illegal occupation of freshwater bodies in Sindh, and for release of freshwater downstream and provision of alternative livelihood resources to the fishermen community. PFF senior members Ghulam Mustafa Mirani, Ishaque Mirani, Ghulam Qadir, Nawaz Mirbahar and others were leading the rally. The leaders demanded that the Sindh government should restrict influential persons of Sukkur, Kashmore, Sajawal and other parts of Sindh from occupying the sweet water ponds as their fishing license is held by the fishermen of the community.
