KARACHI: Traffic jams in different areas of the city are on the rise, as street vendors have occupied footpaths and roads, making it hard for motorists, commuters and pedestrians to move freely. The situation has worsened as the Eid shopping is getting momentum. The Eid shopping season has already began in the city and all market and bazaar areas are crowded with shoppers. However, street and footpaths vendors in these market areas have created serious hurdles to smooth flow of traffic. Moreover, wrong parking of vehicles and illegal car and bike parking lots have further aggravated the problem. The KMC staff is helpless to remove illegal encroachments from roads and streets and traffic police are not taking serious action against illegal parking and non-authorized parking sites. This mess has created agonizing traffic jams in almost all busy commercial areas and main roads of the city.
