KARACHI: The public outreach committee of the Karachi Biennale Trust has invited artists, designers and architects to transform empty cable reels into art pieces. Pakistan Cables is the main activity partner for Reel On Hai and has donated 100 cable reel drums which will be beautified and displayed at different public spaces in Karachi. Up till now, Reel on Hai has unveiled 16 reels across Karachi, which have been placed at locations such as Orangi Pilot Project, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Jinnah Hospital, Customs House, Alliance Francaise, Beach Luxury Hotel, Greenwich University, Safari Park, Fomma, KMC Sports Complex, IBA City Campus and Hill Park. The reel unveiled at Civilization School was developed by Hasnain Ali, who is a fine arts student at Karachi University. His project for Reel on Hai is called Kiosk, in which he has transformed an empty cable reel into a kiosk that can be used by small businesses to sell snacks. Reel on Hai is not only about painting cable reels and creating artworks is about bringing the city into context, believes Masuma Halai Khwaja, the head of the Outreach Committee of the Karachi Biennale Trust and the initiator of this project.
