LARKANA: Large number of civil society activists, socialists and politicians gathered in Bindi village, about 30 kilometers away from Larkana city, the home town of Comrade Sobho Gianchandani, to celebrate his 97th birthday. Comrade was born on May 03, 1920 and expired on December 08, 2014. Rahat Saeed, central leader of Communist Party, Riaz Shahid, President, Anjuman Taraqi Pasand Musanfeen Pakistan, Nirmal son of Comrade along with his wife Rekha, Jagdesh of Sindh Vaas Foundation, Roshan Kalhoro of Sindh United Party, Jam Jamali, Inayat Memon, noted writer & poet, Gulab Pirzado, Anwar Dingrai and so many villagers participated in large numbers. They all paid rich tributes & highlighted the contribution of late Comrade to the people of Sindh. A cake was also cut to celebrate his birthday. While addressing the participants, Rahat Saeed disclosed that since last two years his Samadhi is still lying at the Mandir which they intend to bury at Bindi village and for this purpose the villagers have donated 17,000 square feet plot an a memorial structure has also been designed by famous architect Tasneem Rizvi of Lahore without any cost. Riaz Shahid said that we are followers of Comrade Sobho who trained us during his lifetime for which he cannot be forgotten. Nirmal said he will carry forward the mission of his late father though he does not have the same power & knowledge but he affirmed that he will accomplish his tasks. Jagdesh said that they are celebrating the birthday of a legend scholar & intellectual of leftist party for the first time at his birth place so that his soul gets peace. Jam Jamali said that Comrade always used to correct my English for which he had a very vast knowledge which is not visible these days. Jam further said that Comrade was indeed an school of thought in himself from whom we learnt a lot and are still delivering to the next generations. Distinguished Sindhi writer & poet Inayat Memon said that Comrade in his life was a very exquisite person adding that he was not only affiliated with Communist Party but he was also an excellent Sindhi story writer. He said that when Comrade went to India’s village Shanti Niketan to get education, he met world famous Bengali poet & scholar Tagore who was so much inspired & impressed from the Comrade’s intelligence that Tagore used to call him ‘A man from Mohenjo Daro’ which expresses his calibre. He said that Comrade also contested elected against late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto but could not win adding they became friends late but difference of opinion was always expressed before Bhutto by Comrade on issues of common interest. Memon further said that due to family differences all property of Comrade was distributed among his sons after that he lived his last days of life under severe stress & miserably. Comrade was forced by various quarters to leave Pakistan & migrate to India but he flatly refused,,he added and further said that he will never leave and die here in Sindh where he was born. Inayat Memon said that the then Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah promised to me that Sindh Government will construct a memorial (Samadhi) of late Comrade during his final rites which he came to attend in Larkana but despite passage of two long years summary is still pending approval at CM House adding hats off to the hometown village residents of Comrade who have donated a huge plot for the said purpose. He said that during his last hospitalization period so many leaders of various nationalist parties came to inquire about his health and Comrade told each one of them to work for the betterment of Sindh. Memon further said that they had also requested the Sindh Culture Department to preserve Samadhi of Comrade but they kept on avoiding and did not respond till todate. Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Larkana Chapter, also celebrated birthday of Comrade Sobho in simple manner due to death of noted Sindhi writer Khaki Joyo few days ago.
