HYDERABAD: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the supremacy of the Constitution and democracy is essential for country’s progress and prosperity and restoration of the 1973 Constitution in its original shape, which is a major achievement of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). The Sindh chief minister expressed these views while speaking as a chief guest at the oath taking ceremony of newly elected office bearers of Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) and District Bar Association Hyderabad on Monday night. Among others, Sindh High Court Senior Judge Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Sadiq Hussain Bhatti, Justice Saeeduddin Nasir and Advocate Zia Linjar were also present on the occasion. The CM said that the parliamentarians unanimously approved the 1973 Constitution, as a result of great efforts by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto led PPP. Qaim said that the lawyers have rendered exemplary sacrifices for the restoration of the Constitution, human rights, judiciary and strengthening of democracy and democratic institutions. While referring the efforts of PPP during its regime, the CM said that the government has set its priority to improve and develop the health and education sectors and provide job opportunities to jobless youth of the province. The government has so far provided jobs to around 0.2 million jobless persons besides imparting technical education to others so that they could be able to take jobs in private sector or start their own business, he added. He said that the government has established five medical universities and six general higher learning institutions besides the formation of provincial Higher Education Commission. The CM said that the government has now focused its attention to improve the literacy rate and primary education in the province. The provincial government in collaboration with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Programme has established 106 primary schools to provide quality education in the province, he added. He said that a ‘Trauma Centre’ has also been established in Karachi and planning the same at Hyderabad adding that new hospitals are being established in each taluka of the province while Mithi Hospital Tharparkar has been equipped with state of the art medical equipments with sufficient number of medics, paramedics and medicines. He informed that a state of the art children hospital has also started functioning in the area. Qaim said that the PPP has the record of rendering sacrifices for the restoration of Constitution, democracy and for the rights of the people. On the occasion, he announced the grant of Rs 10 million for Sindh High Court Bar Association. Sindh High Court Bar Association President Ayaz Hussain Tunio and Hyderabad District Bar Association President Basharat Memon also spoke on the occasion.
