KHAIRPUR: A meeting of the Municipal Corporation Sukkur was held on Tuesday, presided over by its Mayor, Barrister Arslam Islam Shaikh. The meeting declared the building mafia responsible for the trouble of the public and declared an emergency. They imposed a ban on the construction of big buildings in Sukkur. The members talked about the difficulties faced by traffic jams, garbage, cleanliness and other issues. They stated that the builder mafia are constructing buildings withoutplanning, drains, or water supply, therefore the streets are looking like garbage and thepeople of Sukkur are facing many hardships. Construction material is being laid on roads and traffic is being obstructing on a daily basis. The meeting unanimously passed resolutions which completely banned the construction of big buildings. Further resolutions stated that maps and designed under construction buildings will be required and action should be taken against officers who approved such buildings. Addressing the meeting, Mayor Arslan Islam Shaikh stated that the de-slitting of drainages will be started very soon before the monsoon season in Sukkur. He announced that Rs 60 million were approved for the construction of the office of Mayor Sukkur and Rs 2.5 million were approved for each union council of the district. Rs 20000/ has been approved as rent for each union council while Rs 10000/ will be given for stationary to each union council. The meeting also approved heat stoke centers at Ganta Ghar, Bin Qasim Park, Bus Stand, Thalhah to facilitate the people during the heat wave days. The Mayor informed the gathering that Rs 70 million were approved for the cleanliness, and drinking water project of the city, while the Bakar Island project will be completed within three months. The Mayor added that the parking at Hira Medical center has been canceled andnow action should be taken against those who have parked their motorcycles.
