KARACHI: Shifting of schools, which were located in the Jamshed Town of District East Karachi, has created sufferings for the students and teachers since they were already experiencing low enrollment. On the recommendation of district education officer, Director of Schools Karachi, Dr Riaz Ahmed Siddiqui has officially informed the management and students about those schools. As per official orders of directorate of schools, Bahadur Yar Jung Government Boys Secondary School (BYJGBSS) ,Jamshed Road which was located in the premises of BYJ Government Schools’ Campus, has has been shifted to the Government Primary Schools Jamia Islamia , Akhtar colony. The Children Home Government Boys Secondary School (CHGBSS) which was located in the premises of White Hall Government Boys Secondary School (WHGBSS), Jamshed Road, has been shifted to the White Hall Government Boys Primary School Gulistan e Jauhar, Safoora Goth. Similarly, Senior Model Government Boys Secondary School (SMGBSS) which was running in the premises of Senior Model Schools’ Campus has been shifted to the Model Primary School, Hussaini Hazara, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. “Those areas where the schools have been shifted are located far away from Jamshed Town and the students are not aware of the bus routes to get there and most of them can’t even bear transport’s expenses on daily basis”, Saleem Raza, Principal of BYJGBSS said, adding that the Government policy of shifting schools will literally disturb the enrollment ratio because the enrolled students are also working in nearby shops, Dhabas and Mechanics’ work-shops. “The students barely earns 80 to 100 Rupees daily as they are also studying in the schools close to their work places”, Meher Unnesa, A senior lady teacher of Nawab Bahadur Yar Jang Government Boys Higher Secondary School repeated the same version. Muhammad Alam, resident of Hyderabad colony, Jamshed Road said that the area needs more government schools but it is very amazing that director of schools is shifting those schools which were established few decades ago by the community. “Schools Education Department does not ask the community and elected representatives that if they need schools or not”, he added. A number of teachers told Daily Times that they are unable to conduct annual exams of class 1 to eighth. Since they should have been started from 1 march and the examination of higher classes (9th and 10th ) will be staring at the end of this month. They also pointed out that new allotted building has no basic facilities like furniture, electricity and clean drinking water. “We have followed the orders of Education Minister, Jam Mehtab Dhar, because we had a very low enrollment ratio”, When Daily Time contacted District Education Officer; Abdul Rauf Kandhro said that the study of student will be not disturbed as he has recommended to shift those schools. How he didn’t not give any reason for the shifting of schools from the locality expect low enrollment. It is pertinent to mention here that government has not built any new school in city since 2007. It is permanent to mention here that around 650 schools have been accommodated in already running school buildings in the last seven years. It has been reliably learnt that the vacant buildings are being sold to the construction mafia on heavy commissions.
