LAHORE: A three-day medical camp was set up at the Government College University Lahore under the auspices of its Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and Punjab AIDS Control Programme (PACP) for free medical check-up of university’s students, faculty members and staff. GCU QEC Director Iram Sohail said that more than 1,000 students and staff members were screened and provided free vaccination against Hepatitis B. “If anyone is diagnosed with hepatitis during the tests, they would be provided free of cost treatment and medical advice by the Punjab AIDS Control Programme,” she said. The director also said that the focus of such camp was the university’s support staff because they usually have less awareness and means for such expensive vaccinations and tests. “The PACP is a brilliant initiative of the government of Punjab, and these people are doing a wonderful job,” she added. She said that the Quality Enhancement Cell had held different awareness campaigns throughout the year against the chronic diseases for better health of the university’s students and staff members. Later, pamphlets and other awareness material against hepatitis B, C, syphilis and HIV/AIDS were also distributed among students at the medical camp.
