LAHORE: A conference titled ‘TEDxLahoreWomen, 2016’ with a special focus on women-centric reforms will be held in Lahore today (Saturday). Chief Minister Special Monitoring Unit on Law & Order senior member Salman Sufi, has been invited to shed light on multiple women empowerment reforms including the Women on Wheels initiative, the Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act 2016 and the Violence Against Women Centres. Leading actress Mahira Khan, lawyer Zainab Chughtai, nutritionist Dr Shagufta Feroz, comedian Faiza Saleem, classical singer Sara Zaman, renowned educationist Sophia Kasuri and architect Hala Bashir Malik will also throw weight behind the increasing women’s mobility to ensure that both private and public spheres are made safer, available and easily accessible for girls and women of all ages. The conference is aimed at bringing together active and inspirational women and men, who strive to make women empowerment a reality in Pakistan. The programme is a collection of local and self-organised events that bring people together to share inspirational and informative stories. These local, self-organised events are branded as TEDx where “x” stands for an independently organised TED event.
