LAHORE: The teaching community of the Punjab public educational institutions is unhappy with the federal budget 2017-18 and termed the budget anti-teachers. Teachers said that the newly imposed taxes would increase burden on the teaching community. They said that government should have increased their salaries as per their needs. The government has announced an increase in salaries of government employees up to 10 percent in the federal budget 2017-18. The increase is being widely criticised by government employees of all departments. Talking to Daily Times, Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) President Chaudhry Sarfraz said that a “meagre” increase in salaries was injustice with the teaching community. He said that the government should have increased the salaries up to 20 percent. Sarfraz said that the increase is not sufficient for pensioners also. “There must have been an increase of 30 percent in pensions,” he added. Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) President Hafiz Abdul Khaliq said that government should have increased house rent and other allowances for the teaching community.
