LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Monday presided over a high-level meeting which reviewed different matters pertaining to implementation of the Khadim-e-Punjab Saaf Pani Programme. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that a future strategy had been evolved for speedy implementation of Saaf Pani Project. He said that provision of clean drinking water would be started in 37 tehsils of South Punjab in the first phase and its scope would be expanded across the province phase-wise. The chief minister directed the Saaf Pani Company to select best human resource on merit for its capacity-building and sought viable recommendations for restoration of non-functional rural water schemes. He said that clean drinking water was the basic right of every citizen and Punjab government was working on this programme to ensure that right. He said that the targets of Saaf Pani Programme should be achieved within stipulated period and work would have to be carried out vigorously in this regard. He said that provision of clean drinking water to people was the responsibility of the Punjab government, which will be fulfilled at any cost. Saaf Pani Company Chief Executive Officer South gave a briefing on different models and implementation of the programme. Besides others, chief secretary, Planning and Development chairman and housing secretary were present on the occasion. Separately, Member National Assembly Najaf Abbas Sial and former MPA Qaisar Amin Butt called on the Punjab chief minister on Monday. The chief minister told the visiting leaders that selfless service to people was the agenda of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government. He said that resources were a trust of the nation and each and every penny was being spent on public welfare projects honestly. In a veiled reference to his political opponents, the chief minister said that politics of chaos and anarchy neither had succeeded earlier and nor will succeed in future. He said those wanted to create hurdles in the journey of progress and prosperity of the nation had been isolated politically. People of Pakistan want only development, prosperity and peace, he said, adding that the PML-N had put the country on the road to progress.
