LAHORE: Despite the strict ban on kite flying, city police and other departments concerned completely failed to overcome the kite flying in the provincial metropolis on Sunday. Kite flying was observed in different areas of Lahore city on Sunday including, Shahdra, Badami Bagh, Shahdra Town, Township, Green Town, Kotlakhpat, Baghbanpura, Bund Road and other parts of the city. Some kite fliers were of the view that the authorities concerned should bring those people to the book who had made the activity life-threatening. However, some citizens were of the view that police had failed to implement the ban on kite flying as they took no action against kite fliers and kite sellers despite repeated complaints. Sajid Awan, a local resident, said kite flying was observed in different areas of the city but police did not take any action. Meanwhile, police on Sunday claimed to have arrested several kite fliers and kite sellers, besides seizure of string rolls and other allied material. A spokesman for city police Sunday said that several raids were conducted to net kite sellers and the violators. Raids will continue to ensure implementation on the ban on kite flying,” he said. Moreover, station house officer (SHOs) of different police stations have also claimed that they carried out raids and arrested people involved in kite flying or selling kites in their areas. According to police, more than 1,000 FIRs had been lodged against the violators of the ban in the last five months dozens of violators were also booked.
