LAHORE: A 22-year-old girl has allegedly committed suicide over some domestic issues at the Punjab University’s Girls Hostel No 5. According to initial details, the deceased identified as Ayesha Furqan of Attock district was found dead in her cousin’s room on Thursday. Police and the PU administration were of the view that the girl committed suicide by cutting her wrist over some domestic issues. PU sources said some students found Ayesha fainted on a bed in her cousin’s room on the day of incident. They informed the PU administration and police about the incident after which the girl was taken to a local hospital. However, she died of excessive bleeding. Talking to Daily Times, a spokesman for the Punjab University said the girl was residing in her cousin’s room for the last two days as she had applied for an admission to PU on sports quota. “She was residing in her cousin’s room for a cricket trial,” the spokesman said. Sources close to investigation said swabs of the deceased’s body had been sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency. A duty officer at the police station said the investigation into the case would proceed further once the medical examination report is received. Earlier in January, a PU student committed suicide at a private hostel on Wahdat Road. The body of the student was recovered from a girls hostel’s washroom. Reason behind her death could not be ascertained as yet. The deceased identified as Afzana Rashid of Hafizabad area was a student at the Punjab University’s Department of Mathematics. Police had claimed that there was no sign of torture on the body. Separately, two persons were killed in two road accidents in Defence C and Sundar police limits. A 26-year-old fruit vendor was crossing a road in Defence C police precinct when a vehicle hit him. The injured was taken to a hospital where he yielded to his wounds. The dead body was sent to morgue for an autopsy. In another incident, a 21-year-old man was run over by a speeding truck near Sundar Road. The deceased identified as Naseem Khan of Manga Mnadi was on his way on a motorcycle when a rashly driven truck hit him and sped away. The injured was shifted to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him brought dead. Police handed over the dead body to heirs after legal formalities. Meanwhile, a minor boy died after falling into a manhole on Bandar Road Lower Mall area. The victim has been identified as Abdur Rahman, a resident of Shahdara. The boy had come to his uncle’s house three days ago. Some passers-by spotted the dead body of the minor boy in a manhole and informed police about it. Police handed over the dead body to heirs after completing legal procedure.
