LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah said on Saturday that the entire legal fraternity of the province would celebrate LHC’s 150th year of inception with zeal, adding that the district judiciary and lawyers’ bars were fully on the same page regarding provision of timely justice to the masses. He invited the provincial government for effective participation in this regard, adding that writers, artists, students and children from all over the province would also be invited to participate in these celebrations. Addressing LHC’s full court meeting, which was convened to review arrangements regarding the 150th year of the apex provincial court’s establishment, the chief justice said that by inviting people from walks of life, he wanted to make the common man realise that a competent and active judiciary was available for protection of his rights. He said that organising such a celebratory event normally took one year of preparations, but the LHC staff would organise the event in just two months, which was commendable. Giving details about the celebration, the chief justice said a coloruful opening ceremony would be organised in which the national flag would be hoisted at the LHC building on November 1, adding that balloons and pigeons would be freed in the air to mark the historic occasion. The chief justice said that literature competitions and exhibitions would also be part of the celebrations. There would be competitions of photography, themed on implementation of law, besides old pictures of the LHC building as well as essay writing competitions. He said people who are willing to participate in these competitions should submit their entries by October 31 in the LHC, adding that all samples would be displayed for exhibition on November 1 and the winners would be given prizes on December 10, the concluding day. The chief justice said in order to widen the scope of these celebrations across the province, symposiums on implementation of justice would be organised in nine cities of the province on November 5, 12 and 19 respectively. Meanwhile, LHC Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa on Saturday retired from his office after attaining the age of superannuating (62 years in case of LHC). A formal send-off ceremony was held in the honour of the outgoing judge in which Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah along with other judges participated. The chief justice presented a souvenir and bouquet to the outgoing judge. Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa was elevated as the LHC judge on May 12, 2011, and with his retirement, the number of LHC judges dropped to 46 against constitutional strength of 60.
