LAHORE: The November 2 protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is justified, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said on Monday. Talking to reporters, Ahsan said that PPP could join the PTI in its protest if the demonstrators were subjected to violence. “The November 2 protest by Imran Khan for initiation of action against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Panamagate and for demanding the accountability of the Sharif family is justified. There are no two opinions about it. PPP stands with Imran Khan on this demand. But we are not joining the protest,” he said. “We will keep an eye on any incident of violence against PTI workers. If the demonstrators are subjected to state violence, then the PPP will be forced to change its policy,” he said. He said that state institutions should have acted when the prime minister and members of his family were named in the Panamagate issue. “No institutions, including the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), took any action to hold them accountable,” he said. Ahsan said that NAB was subservient to the PM’s family and that was why it had not proceeded against them. “The opposition just wants the accountability process to start,” he said.
