LAHORE: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Ijaz Ahmed on Thursday thanked the public for their cooperation and following traffic rules on the occasion of Pakistan Day. In a statement, he said that the citizens had proved to be a refined nation by maintaining best traffic discipline on the roads. Traffic wardens were specially directed to cooperate completely with citizens and ensure the smooth traffic flow by conserving their energies, he said. On the occasion of Pakistan Day, wherever the programmes for flag hoisting were organised, an additional field force of traffic wardens was deployed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. All traffic officers and wardens provided best facilities to the motorists, he said, and added that no calls were received regarding traffic problem or logjam. According to details, the City Traffic Police Lahore had deployed three superintendents of police, 12 deputy superintendents of police, 34 inspectors, 190 patrolling officers and more the 1,500 traffic wardens on the Pakistan Day. Leaves of traffic wardens had also been banned. To ensure smooth flow of traffic, alternative routes were provided to citizens by barricading diversions wherever rallies and parades were organised. On the day, the traffic police had prepared a very comprehensive plan, which particularly included the establishment of three traffic response units in which 70 traffic wardens were on standby. Those wardents had been trained to ensure smooth flow of traffic on notification of any type of traffic congestion or logjam. The CTO and all SPs supervised the traffic on roads, besides organising parking areas.
