LAHORE: After a grand operation against land grabbers in Sabazazar Scheme on Monday, staff of the Estate Management Directorate-II of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) retrieved 20 plots, worth millions of rupees, in different blocks of the scheme. Those plots retrieved include 7 plots measuring 10 marlas each in Block A, a plot in Block E, 7 plots of 7 marlas in Block H-1, two plots of three marlas in Block H-1, a half marla plot in Block H-1, a 5 marla plot in Block L and two plots of five marlas each in Block M. Meanwhile, the Commercialisation Directorate Town Planning Wing of the LDA also sealed six marriage halls in New Garden Town These marriage halls had been constructed in contravention of building by-laws. Those banquet hall sealed include Gracious Marriage Hall, Sapphire Marriage Hall, Mughal-e-Azam Marriage Hall, Grand Marquee, Zouj Marriage Hall and Noor Jehan Marriage Hall. Separately, Muthida Kissan Mahaz chief Ayub Mayo Monday said that the Punjab government’s project to bring barren land under cultivation was a revolutionary initiative which was part of farmer friendly policies of the Punjab chief minister. He elaborated that under the project 50,000 acres land would be brought under cultivation with the cost of Rs 642 million. He appreciated other projects of the government such as protection of farm lands from floods and plan for utilising rainwater for irrigation. “CM Shahbaz Sharif has taken a number of initiatives which have resulted in direct benefit to farmers”, he highlighted. While stressing upon the need of implementation of these projects in letter and spirit, Ayub Mayo said that in the past most of the plans remained either un-implemented or partially implemented. “Funds for such projects in the past could not be fully utilised mainly due to lack of attention of the authorities concerned. We expect that the government will ensure 100% utilisation of the allocated resources within the stipulated timeframe,” he added.
