LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Tuesday set aside holding of local government elections for reserved seats in Punjab on the basis of old schedule and directed ECP to issue a fresh schedule. The chief justice issued the order while accepting a petition moved on behalf of PML challenging the election for reserved seats of LG on the basis of old schedule. Petitioner counsel Mubeen Qazi submitted that the government withdrew amendments previously made in the local government law and the court disposed of cases against the amendments. He said that after the verdict, the elections were to be held as per the law prevalent on Aug 26, 2015. He said that the ECP, instead of issuing fresh election schedule, announced the date of the polling. He said that the ECP earlier announced the schedule by adopting the amendments in law on the basis of enhanced number of seats, which amendment had been withdrawn.
