LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project is a symbol of Pak-China friendship. During a meeting with Lahore Orange Line Metro Train Project Manager Zhu Pengfei here on Sunday, the chief minister said that the project was a special gift for Lahoris from the president, prime minister and people of China. He said the metro train project would be a symbol of architecture and transparency. “It will prove to be a game-changer in provision of modern and speedy source of travel. The chief minister said that people of Pakistan could never forget this great gift from the people of China. Speaking on the occasion, the project manager expressed satisfaction on the work being done on the project. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan, the Punjab Mass Transit Authority managing director and officers concerned were also present at the meeting. Meanwhile, the chief minister said that provision of quality healthcare facilities to the people in his mission. Chairing a high-level meeting to review progress on the steps taken to improve the healthcare system and ongoing reform programmes in the health sector, the chief minister said that the best healthcare facilities would be provided to the people at all costs. “Steps are being taken to improve the healthcare system. All-out resources were being available for provision of better medical facilities to the people.” The chief minister said that the Prime Minister National Health Insurance Programme was successfully running in four districts of the province, and the scope of this programme would be extended to all districts of the province. Shahbaz said that the Punjab government had introduced a modern system of purchase, supply and distribution of medicines, which would put an end to sale of counterfeit and substandard medicines. He said that provision of computerised tomography (CT) scanners at the hospital was being ensured. The chief minister also directed officials concerned to conduct an audit of dialysis machined installed at all government hospitals, and take immediate steps to overcome the shortage of nephrologists in public sector hospitals. Shahbaz said that motorbikes ambulance service would be introduced soon in nine divisions of the province. The Punjab government, he said, had handed over the administration of ambulance service of hospitals from the Health Department to the Rescue 1122. “This new system of ambulance service would improve the service of transferring patients to hospitals on time.” Present at the meeting, the Rescue 1122 Director General (DG) told the chief minister that steps had been taken for auction of old ambulances, and added that auction of 81 outmode ambulances would be done in this month. Provincial Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Adviser Dr. Umer Saif, additional chief secretary, secretaries of the departments concerned, health experts and other high officials also attended the meeting.
