LAHORE: Judicial Activism Panel Chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique Saturday approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking directives for medical stores to display the official rate list of medicines as per the law. He filed the petition under article 199 of the constitution against the provincial Health Department, health regulatory authority and others. The petitioner alleged that the medical stores owners were charging extra money from purchasers and were not selling medicines on government prescribed rates. He alleged that they were committing fraud with the people by not displaying the official rate list at the stores. He stated that the provincial government was giving subsidy on certain life-saving drugs but its departments concerned were not inclined to take action against those owners who were violating the law. He requested the court to order authorities concerned to implement the law. A single bench of LHC will hold preliminary hearing in the case next week. Published in Daily Times, July 23rd , 2017.
