LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on Thursday pressed the government to put the names of Model Town culprits on Exit Control List (ECL). Addressing a press conference at the party secretariat, Qadri suggested it would be a contempt of court if the government did not open the Justice Baqir Najafi report about the Model Town killings. Qadri said the Lahore High Court’s verdict was a step towards justice. He said they did not lose their patience and did also not malign the judiciary despite a delay in the case. He said that the Punjab government killed dozens of people, including innocent women in Model Town. He asked Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to resign as he was responsible for the killings. To a question about Nawaz Sharif, Qadri said that the court only ousted him from his office, but did not confiscate his property. PAT Secretary General Khurram Gandapur said Shahbaz Sharif should step down after the court’s decision to release the judicial inquiry report prepared by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi. On July 17, 2014, 14 people were killed and 100 others injured as police opened fire outside Qadri’s residence. Published in Daily Times, September 22nd 2017.
