LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has in principle decided to allow all prisoners who belong to the National constituency NA-120 to exercise their right to vote in the by-election scheduled to be held on September 17. According to details, inmates will vote in the by-election while using the postal service. The ECP has sent a draft to the Punjab chief secretary in this regard. Civilians subjected to house arrest or imprisonment can submit application for postal voting until August 30. Moreover; the jail inmates will be able to use their vote right through postal service on September 6. The seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case. The constituency comprises Hall Road, New Anarkali, Old Anarkali, Urdu Bazar, Bilal Gunj, Lytton Road, Abbot Road, Nisbat Road, Dhobi Mandi, Fareed Court House, Fish Market, Jain Mandar, Neela Gunbad, Ganga Ram Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Davis Road, Nabha Road, Outfall Road, Palm Street, Royal Park, Temple Road, Data Darbar, Pir Makki Bazaar, Islampura, Shamnagar Road, Ganga Ram, Aibak Road, Sanda, Lower Mall, Civil Secretariat, District Court, Session Court, Civil Court, Sardar Chappal Chowk, Mohni Road, and Ravi Road, Queens Road, Mominpura, Krishan Nagar, Rajgarh, Chauburji, Shamnagar, Riwaz Garden, Khokhar Town, Sanatnagar, Lake Road, Kasurpura, Ravi Colony, Ameen Park, Corporation Colony, Mohni Road, Firdous Park, Gulshan Riaz Colony, Malik Park, Ittehad Colony, Azadi Chowk, Kardar Park, Kapurthala House, Latif Park, Mission Road and other areas. A tough competition is expected among three candidates of mainstream political parties, including Faisal Mir of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Dr Yasmin Rashid of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former first lady Kulsoom Nawaz of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
