LAHORE: The Punjab AIDS Control Programme (PACP) has set up a ‘psychological support unit’ for offering counselling services exclusively to HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B and C patients. The announcement was made by PACP Programme Director Dr Adnan Zafar in a meeting of the programme managers at the committee room of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department on Sunday. According to details, the psychological support unit will provide services in behavioural therapy and mental state examination. The unit will be based in the PACP office, Institute of Public Health. Besides providing services to HIV/AIDS patients, the unit will also cater to people suffering from hepatitis B and C. The meeting was informed that the Punjab AIDS Control Programme and Punjab Hepatitis Control Programme have developed a programme and communication synergy. The PACP is providing free test and treatment facilities to bus and truck drivers at key locations across the province. Free medical camps for drivers have already been organised in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Gujranwala and Okara. The PACP also provides free treatment to all AIDS patients at treatment centres in Punjab.
