LAHORE: Front Graduates Panel won the Senate election of Punjab University, held after 29 years, on Tuesday. The Front Graduates Panel clean swept the elections. According to unofficial results, Additional Registrar Dr Kamran Abid bagged 217 votes while Mujtaba Baqir, Madiha Batool, Zaid Mahmood and Raja Munawar Ali secured 204, 204, 201 and 199 votes respectively. Academic Staff Association former president Khawaja Haris Rashid got 27 votes while other candidates including Muhammad Safdar Shaheen got 11, Muhammad Azam 11, Tauseef Ahmed 9, Muhammad Najam 7, Kashif Shabbir 6 and Tariq Lateef 3 votes. It is pertinent to mention that the election was held after the decision of Lahore High Court asking PU to organize election of Senate before appointing the assistant professors, associate professors and professors. However, a group of teachers had also filed a plea before LHC for postponing the elections.
