LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah Monday sought reply from the Punjab home secretary till January 30 on a petition challenging the appointment of Fatima Sheikh as the Child Protection Welfare Bureau director general. Andleeb Abbas of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had filed the petition. Counsel for petitioner Sheraz Zaka submitted that Fatima from information group was made DG, whereas the law required that an officer from the provincial management service (PMS) or the district management group (DMG) could hold this office. He said that the government had been failed to enforce provisions of Employment of Children Act 1991 and Neglected and Destitute Children Act, 2004. He said that under the employment of children act the age of child was mentioned as 14 years, whereas under the neglected and destitute children law, the age of child is mentioned as 18 years but under Article 25-A of the constitution, the age of child was mentioned as 16 years. He requested the court to direct the government to initiate legislative provision in order to remove the “discrepancies” in laws.
