LAHORE: Post Graduate Medical Institute and Ameer Uddin Medical College Principal Prof Dr Ghiasun Nabi Tayyab has said that for the safe future of the nation, parents should prepare their children to say ‘no’ to junk and fast food and tin pack juices, and make them habitual of five times prayers with regular walk and exercise, which will save them from diabetes. He was addressing a workshop held at the Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences on the topic of pregnancy and diabetes, its complications and treatment. Professors of different departments, young doctors and medical students of Ameer Uddin Medical College attended this workshop, where Gynaecologist Prof Dr Nuzhat Khawaja, sugar specialist Prof Dr Imran Hasan Khan, Dr Maliha Hameed, Dr Salman Shakeel and Dr Fatima Hamdani delivered lectures on diabetes, problems and prevention, especially for mother and child, and answered a number of questions of the students. Talking to the media and participants, PGMI Principal Prof Dr Ghiasun Nabi Tayyab said that comparatively our women were more lethargic and inactive, and as per the statics of the World Health Organization, 23 percent Pakistani women were suffering from obesity, which resulted in diabetes as well as other health problems. He said that if parents were diabetic then there would be more chances that their children would also become the victim of the same disease. Prof Ghiasun Nabi Tayyab said that by following the Islamic principles and a balanced diet we would save ourselves from diabetes. He said that instead of being afraid of it people should opt for precautionary measures and make their daily routine as per the nature. Medical experts also said that if someone was suffering from diabetes, he or she should not contact quacks or hakims and immediately contact a proper hospital to get treatment. They said that diabetes was now an international problem and other countries were implementing a comprehensive strategy to meet this problem on a war-footing basis. They lauded the holding of such a workshop by the PGMI, which would help both patients and the doctors for better treatment of diabetes in the future. Published in Daily Times, October 10th 2017.
