LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Wednesday said the 1,180 MW Bhikki Power Project would start generating electricity next month. “Projects with collective capacity of 3,600 MW are in final stages of completion at Bhikki, Balloki and Haveli Bahadur Shah that would benefit 200 million people of Pakistan,” he said while addressing a ceremony held in connection with Bhikki Power Project. Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Chief Minister visited Bhikki Power Project in Sheikhupura and reviewed progress on the project. They expressed satisfaction over the pace of work. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was also present on the occasion. “With the completion of all these energy projects, every part of the country would benefit from it,” he said, adding that all these projects were being completed with transparency. He said it was a matter of pleasure that the Prime Minister had visited Bhikki to review progress of the power project, and added that the premier would again visit the power plant next month for its inauguration. The CM also thanked the chief secretary, Planning and Development (P&D) chairman, Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Company Chairman Arif Saeed, energy secretary and the whole team of the Punjab government for making an all-out effort for the project. Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Project Chief Executive Ahad Cheema briefed the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister on the project. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has constituted an inquiry committee to probe the incident of firing at Pakistan People’s Party’s workers and leaders, including Shaukat Basra, in Haroonabad. Sargodha Regional Police Officer (RPO) Zulfiqar Hameed will be the head of the committee, while Additional IG (Complaints), Punjab CPO Syed Khurram Ali and Special Branch SSP will be its members. Separately, Chief Minister Sharif has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in a train-rickshaw crash near Okara. He expressed sympathies and condolences with the aggrieved families. The CM directed officials concerned to ensure provision of best treatment facilities to the injured.
