LAHORE: Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), keeping with its vision of promoting engineering and sciences across the nation, officially inaugurated its very first space observatory. The state-of-the-art space observation facility would feature universe magnifying ‘Celestron CGE Pro Series Telescope’ in the premises of Gad and Birgit Rausing Library. The facility is a contribution by SPADES, a student-run organisation and an initiative of the LUMS Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE). This would enable the LUMS community to look beyond the horizons of earth, which would certainly generate interest of students in the lesser-known fields of astronomy, astrophotography, and space sciences. Sharing his excitement on the occasion, LUMS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Sohail Naqvi said, “LUMS is known for its innovation and focused research. This observatory is a milestone for us and reinstates our prestige and calibre that sets us apart from other universities.”
