LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) legislators Tuesday filed four resolutions in the Punjab Assembly Secretariat against the persecution of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. The resolutions were filed by the PTI-backed Opposition Leader in the House Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, Shoaib Sadiqui, female members Nabila Hakim Ali and Sadia Sohail Rana in which they strongly condemned the brutal killings of Muslim community in Rakhine State of Myanmar. Highlighting the plight of hundreds of Rohingya Muslims and their forced immigration, the resolutions urged the international community, including the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Conference and other human rights organisations, to take notice of the grave human rights violations in Myanmar and pressurise its government to act fast and stop persecution of minority Muslims. Legislators also asked the Pakistani government to highlight the issue before the world and summon the Myanmar ambassador to Pakistan over the brutal and inhuman treatment of Rohingya Muslims. PTI leader and famous singer Ibrarul Haq and Ishtiaq Malik also organised a demonstration at Liberty Chowk in which people from different walks of life participated in a big number. The participants were carrying placards, demanding the UN and the OIC to send peace troops to Myanmar to protect Muslims. Talking to the media, Ibrar, who had been declared an ambassador of the OIC, said that he was feeling ashamed to be the ambassador of the OIC as the forum was doing nothing to protect Muslims. Another protest rally against the persecution of Rohingyas was held on Peco Road. PTI leader Ejaz Chaudhry led the rally to show solidarity with the Rohingya Muslims and urged the government to take measures for stopping the bloodshed. Separately, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) senior leader and former deputy prime minister of Pakistan Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi condemned maltreatment of the Bangladeshi government with the Muslims refugees. He said that Pakistan had been hosting millions of Afghan refugees for so many years and Haseena Wajid should also provide shelter to Rohingya Muslims fleeing genocide.
