LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has said that police and media were determined to identify and eliminate social evils; and both of them should work together for public welfare. “This is need of the hour to bridge the gap between police and media and both of them should work together with sincerity,” said the IGP while addressing participants at concluding the ceremony of the two-day Media Management Training workshop at Central Police Office on Monday. The workshop was organised by the Pakistan Peace Collective, a sub-department of the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and Cultural Heritage. The IGP said police officers should ensure that relevant information be provided to media and it was the responsibility of media to present both sides of the story to the public. The IGP appreciated the Pakistan Peace Collective for their support in re-establishment of the Directorate of Public Relations at Central Police Office and added that security forces were dealing with so many challenges and it was very important that authentic and timely information be provided to public through media. Messages of determination and courage should be relayed through media so that the nation can firmly fight against menace of terrorism, he asserted. District and city police officers from 20 districts of upper Punjab including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Sargodha, Attock, Jhelum, Chiniot, Mandi Bahauddin, Bhakkar, Jhang, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hafizabad, Lodhran, Toba Tek Singh, Narowal and Sheikhupura participated in the workshop. Pakistan Peace Collective Chief Operating Officer Shabbir Anwar, Former Karachi corps commander General (r) Shahid Iqbal and DIG Operations Aamir Zulfiqar Khan monitored performance of the participants as judges. The IGP said that Punjab Police had organised this training for senior field officers so that they could align themselves with needs of modern media. He advised field officers to establish better professional relations with media and share authentic information. DIG Operations Aamir Zulfiqar Khan said good relations between police and media would not only help to cope with any crisis situation but would also help build a better image of police. He said Punjab Police last week organised a two-day training for DPOs of southern Punjab and now the same was being organised for upper Punjab districts. Shabbir Anwar said the objective of Pakistan Peace Collective was to counter violent extremism by incorporating messages of determination and courage in public and to boost-up their morale to fight the war against terrorism.
