LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore director general on Thursday gave a cheque of Rs five million, recovered from a Daska-based industrialist who had defaulted on payment of electricity bills, to the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO). National Accountability Bureau DG Shahzad Saleem gave the cheque to GEPCO General Manager Operations Haroonur Rasheed. A NAB Lahore team had arrested Malik Khalid Mehmood, owner of Usman Steel Furnace, in November 2016. During proceedings, an accountability court approved Mehmood’s request to let him return Rs20.7 million he owed to the company in quarterly payments. NAB Lahore has returned Rs three billion to LESCO, GEPCO, MEPCO and FESCO since January 2017. Published in Daily Times, August 4th 2017.
