LAHORE: Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment has arrested the sub-inspector of Hanjarwal Police Station, an assistant posted in the District Education Office and five patwaris from Lahore and Pakpattan on account of bribery. The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) officials recovered the amount of gratification and sent the accused to jail after registering cases against them. According to the official handout issued on Sunday, Lahore Anti-Corruption Circle Officer Syed Zubair Akhlaq arrested Sub-inspector Mukhtar Ahmad after approval of judicial action against him. He was accused of taking Rs 70,000 as bribe to register a bogus case and was found guilty during the course of investigation. Assistant Sub-inspector Shehzad Umer had lodged a complaint against him. Syed Zubair Akhlaq also arrested Jamil Ahmad, an assistant of Lahore District Education Office, for taking Rs 20,000 as gratification for transfer of an official. He was caught red-handed while taking bribe during a trap raid. Meanwhile, ACE Headquarters Circle Officer Muhammad Azam arrested Lahore (Halqa Pandoki) patwari Shahid Rasheed red-handed during a trap raid while he was taking Rs 100,000 from Ahmad Raza, the complainant, for girdawari. Moreover, Pakpattan ACE arrested patwari Abdul Majeed, an employee of the Punjab Irrigation Department, for taking Rs 5,000 and patwari Ahmad, posted at the Revenue Department, for taking Rs 30,000 as bribe from citizens. Both patwaris were arrested during trap raids. Pakpattan ACE recovered the amount of gratification and registered cases against the accused. Separately, the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) arrested 70 criminals, including 26 proclaimed offenders, and recovered drug, illegal weapons and other valuables from their possession during the last seven days. According to the PHP spokesman on Sunday, the PHP teams held crackdown against criminals on national highway and during strict checking, arrested 26 proclaimed offenders namely Abdul Rasheed, Hakim Ali, Hashim, Allah Baksh, Mazhar Hussain, Karam Hussain, Razi, Shahbaz, Bashir Hussain, Wahid Abbas, Maskinullah, Suleman Ahmad, Muhammad Arif, Imran, Mansab Ali, Tariq Pervaiz, Mazhar, Nadeem, Zawar Ahamd, Umar Hayat, Shafi, Abdul Majeed, Allah Rakha, Ghulam Muhammad, Hashim and Bilal. He said PHP handed over these criminals to concern police stations for further legal procedure. He said that the PHP team also recovered 188 litres of wine, 1,870-gram chars, three rifles, 14 pistols and 124 bullets, seven cartridges and rounds after arresting 44 criminals including Hashim, Iqbal, Nasir, Shahzad Ahmad, Riaz, Jafar Hussain, Ajmal, Imran, Amjad, Sami Insaf, Sajid, Zafar Iqbal, Ghulam Farid, Hussain, Najaf Ali, Abdul Qadoos, Perviz, Toor khan, Sajid, Yasir, Yusuf and Ali. The PHP team also reunited four children, including Kiran, Shahid, Sahil and Waqas, with their parents.
