LAHORE: Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi Friday said that the Muslim Ummah should play its key role to annihilate terrorism, extremis and sectarian violence for economic prosperity of the Muslim world. Addressing a religious congregation at Jamia Masjid Khulfa-e-Rashdeen, Lahore, Ashrafi said that the leadership of Muslim Ummah should play their vital role to address challenged confronting Kashmir, Palestine, Syria, Yemen and Iraq. “Terrorist activities in Saudi Arabia and Kabul are being made to destabilise the Ummah and to create differences within Islamic countries,” said Ashrafi. While appreciating decision on part of US administration for not shifting the US Consulate from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi termed it a success of Al-Riyadh Summit. He announced the ‘Unity of Ummah Week’ would be observed from June 16 to June 23 to express solidarity with oppressed Muslim across the world. “The culmination day of the week will be observed ‘Protection Day’ for Harmain Al- Sharifain and Masjid-e-Aqsa.” He also urged ruling leadership of Pakistan to review their priorities pertaining to foreign and internal policies. “Pre-planned conspiracies are being hatched against state institutions in the country,” he said, adding: “The accountability process has been started from Sharif family and the entire leadership will have to be passed out from the ongoing phase of accountability.” Ashrafi said that threatening conduct on part of some political parties for accountability process was condemnable. “The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and the judiciary should be allowed to do their job freely.” Maulana Zubair Zahid, Maulana Tahir Aqeel, Maulana Habibur Rehman, Maulana Muhamamd Tayab Gormani, Maulana Faisal Bilal Hassan, Maulana Abu Bakar Qasmi and Maulana Ashfaq Patafi also addressed the gathering.
