LARKANA: After sacking of five retired professors by Shaheed Mortarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana, on Tuesday poor and needy patients of Larkana Division are facing serious difficulties in having treatment and tests. Times learnt on Wednesday that after retirement of Dr. Manzoor Ahmed Shaikh, Assistant Professor of Pathology Department, all investigations of FNAC, biopsy and medico-legal cases have been closed as there is no alternate with University or Chandka Medical College authorities. As many as 500 such cases were dealt monthly and will not be handled till suitable professor was appointed. FNAC and biopsy cases will now be carried out at private laboratories who will earn huge profit. FNAC test is charged by private laboratory between Rs 400 to 1000/- per case and biopsy between Rs1000 to 5000/- per case. At SMBBMU these tests were carried out free of cost. This will greatly burden poor ailing patients of interior Sindh who are worst affected as they were already paying Chandka Medical College Hospital user charges on “no profit no loss basis” for various tests. They will have to pay large amount to private labs for proper diagnosis. People demanded of the rulers either to post a proper professional immediately or allow university authorities to hire Dr. Manzoor Shaikh to carry out essential tests in the interest of needy patients.
