LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to start a crackdown against people involved in posting false material against the government on social media. Punjab police have been directed to take action under the Cyber Crime Law. According to sources, the issue was raised in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, where the Punjab prosecutor general said bogus posts against the Punjab government had been posted on social media, which damaged the image of the government. It was also raising questions about governance in Punjab, he observed. Participants in the meeting including the Inspector General of Police and the Home Secretary expressed their opinion on the issue and suggested lodging cases against the accused under the recently-approved Cyber Crime Law. The IG was directed to complete his homework and take action against the accused. Consequently, the IG has directed City Police Officers (CPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to start a crackdown on the accused.
