LAHORE: A bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday issued notices to Punjab University and others on petitions challenging five year duration for LLB course and 24-year age limit for admission eligibility. The bench headed by LHC’s chief justice – Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah – heard the petitions filed by Muhammad Zain and others. During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that the Punjab University had started the five-year LLB programme despite the fact that Pakistan Bar Council had directed the university to start it from 2018. He further said that the university had set 24-years age limit for admissions in the five-year LLB programme which was a violation of fundamental rights as no one could be deprived from education. He pleaded the court to issue directions for starting five-year programme from 2018 and declare the age limit illegal. The bench after recording arguments sought reply from university and others respondents till September 6.
