ISLAMABAD: Complaints Council of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has imposed fine of one million rupees on Royal News TV channel for broadcasting insulting content against National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The 63rd meeting of PEMRA Complaints Council Lahore was chaired by Dr Mehdi Hassan at PEMRA Regional Office Lahore. It also recommended fine of Rs 200,000 for absence and non-seriousness of ARY News TV channel in a complaint filed against it by the Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood Khan. During the hearing of complaint of Messrs GEO television against cable operators, the council ordered all cable operators to include the channel in their news bouquet. The council also deferred the complaint of Messrs Sitara Chemical Industries against Channel 24 till next hearing while imposing fine of Rs 50,000 on it for its non-serious attitude. Meanwhile, the council deferred the hearing of complaint filed by Waqas Qadeer Sheikh against Channel 24. It also deferred the complaint filed by cricketer Muhammad Hafeez against television channels due to his tour to England with the Pakistani team. The meeting was attended by members of the council Dr Sughra Sadaf, Dr Mubashir Nadeem, Dr Lubna Zaheer, Iftikhar Ahmed Tarar and PEMRA Regional General Manager Dr Muhammad Safdar Rehman.
