ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday said the government was committed to bring the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) at par with other regions of the country through reforms and ensuring socio-economic development. He stated that introduction of comprehensive reforms in FATA was a step in the right direction and would be instrumental in meeting longstanding demands of the region’s people. Mamnoon expressed these views while chairing a presentation on FATA Reforms at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. Prime minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz, Minister for Law Zahid Hamid, Minister for SAFRON Abdul Qadir Baloch, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and National Security Advisor Nasser Khan Janjua were also present on the occasion. He stated that FATA reforms should be in line with the aspirations of the people of the region and all stakeholders should be taken on board. He stressed on the need to have an effective check and balance mechanism to ensure proper utilisation of development funds and to curb corruption during implementation phase of the reforms. The president appreciated the work of FATA Reforms Committee and hoped that it would help in mainstreaming the region and addressing the issues for socio-economic development.
