ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce finalised and gave approval to the amendments in State life Insurance Corporation (Re-Organisation and Conversion) Bill, 2016 with majority today here at the Parliament House. Senate Standing Committee on Commerce Chairman Senator Shibli Faraz observed that the committee has burnt mid night oil to propose amendments in the State Life Insurance Corporation Bill, 2016 and intends to make sure that the interests of the policy holders and employees of the SLIC are protected. He said that social impact of the legislation should be kept in mind. Members of the committee also underscored the need to protect the interests of the policy holders. Minister for Commerce Ghulam Dastageer Khan said that the ministry disagrees with the proposed amendments. Senator Rahila Magsi also opposed the amendments; however other members of the committee approved the amendments for incorporation in the Bill. The meeting was attended among others by Senators Ilyas Ahmad Khan Bilour, Naseema Ehsan, Karim Ahmed Khawaja, Mufti Abdul Sattar, Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar, Rahila Magsi, Saleem Mandviwala, Rubina Khalid and Haji Saifullah Khan Bangash. Senior officers of the ministry, SLIC and other relevant departments also attended the meeting.
